SHORTS PROGRAM 4: ANIMATION - Cinequest Film Festival 21
From around the world, universes of imagination.
The astonishing collection of animation in program four offers a display of visual fireworks plucked directly from our dreams. This collection includes: The Moon Bird by the brothers McLeod, brings us a grim fairy tale about a little orphan girl’s battle against a sorceress who wishes to collect her tears. From Canada come two shorts, one about the troubled life and mind of Avant Garde animator Arthur Lipsett, and Red Snow, a dreamlike portrayal of warfare through the eyes of children. From Spain comes Alma, in which a little girl discovers a mysterious toy store she may never leave, and Australia gives us Polo’s Robot, in which an inventor creates a being far more powerful than he realizes. From America comes Bill Plympton’s The Cow Who Wanted to Be Hamburger about the perils of ambition, while Denmark shows us the ocean from seafood’s perspective, and Parasol follows a couple shopping for parasols who get more than they bargained for. In The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, a terrific storm sends a Buster Keaton-like protagonist into an amazing world of living books, and The Thomas Beale Cipher tells the story of a treasure map hidden in a code.
