The Gap

Running time: N/A

"That which lies between" is the subject matter of this series...the gap. Whether in time, in space, or attitudes...these spaces are what separates us and what must be bridged to reach understanding and reconciliation.Jacqueline Turnure's THE SILENCE BETWEEN experimentally chronicles a road trip of a mother and daughter. In the process, they learn that the distance they cover is not nearly as great as the distance between them. In Marya Cohn's DEVELOPING, a mother and her young daughter (Natalie Portman -- The Professional), on the verge of womanhood, cope with a similar distance, complicated by the challenges of breast cancer. Matt Aquino's experimental film LISTEN explores the power of dreams (American and otherwise), how reality can undermine them, the importance of hope when all is said and done and how sometimes "hearing is believing." Steve Kurland's DELFT BLUE follows a man's return home to see his dying father. On the way, he ruminates over choices made by both he and his father and tries to summon the courage to forgive. In the 90's, getting close isn't easy, and in Hugh Bush's SAFER SEX, we find that sometimes even "safe sex" can be hazardous to your health. The young man in Jonathan Cordish's LOST MOJAVE must care for his sick mother and come to terms with the memories of a father that left years before. --Matt Aquino
