It's not the destination, but with whom you travel. Harris and Penny, a cab driver and his fare, engage in flirtatious banter during their brief ride on a desolate road...until Penny abruptly vanishes from the back seat, leaving Harris mystified. His dispatcher seems unconcerned, and directs him to his next fare, where he again picks up Penny. As they continuously repeat this ride, their feelings for each other grow stronger. Will they be satisfied by these brief encounters, do they need more, or do they need to understand the force behind what is happening to them? This movie provides intriguing contrasts between fantasy and reality, while pondering the experience of time. An extraordinary love story, in the vein of the classic Twilight Zone.
