A Sort of Homecoming
Running time: 93 mins
A comedic drama about one family, two brothers and a really big problem.
After a year of living with his boyfriend William in Chicago, the estranged Seth brings William home for the family vacation in Austin to meet his spiritual and conservative siblings and their mother. What initially seems a coming out story turns out to be an exploration of the struggles inherent in any relationship, romantic or otherwise. Seth struggles to reconnect with his older brother Thomas and to explain his sexuality to his mother, but his homecoming serves as a catalyst for his sister and his brother to re-examine their own marriages and for the whole family to come together to deal with the recent loss of their father. Only time will tell if the entire clan will be able to end the week as a family.
Director Mike Akel won the Audience Award at Cinequest with the World Premiere of his film Chalk. Akel?s second feature features much of the same cast members and another superbly crafted script, this time with co-writer Matt Patterson. The results are an affecting and humorous story about family, religion and most importantly love.
