Gonzalez
Running time: 110 mins
Are you willing to succeed at all costs? Winner of the Golden Zenith Award at the Montreal World Film Festival, director Christian Diaz Pardo's debut film features the prolific Harold Torres (Sin Nombre) and the charismatic Carlos Bardem (Javier's older brother, Cell 211). Gonzalez (Torres), a young man living an anonymous, solitary life in the bustling Mexico City, is desperate to pay off his looming debts and make a name for himself. He manages to get a job at a church - led by the slick televangelist Pastor Elias (Bardem) - that makes its money by conning the devout and the desperate and selling false spirituality. As he gets deeper into the operation, Gonzalez discovers a new way to survive, and he will do anything in his power to get ahead. - Vivian Yuen
