One man?s misery is another man?s art.
Tellervo and Oliver Kalleinen had a great idea - go around the world collecting people?s complaints, transforming them into a song and having the complainers perform it. And that?s exactly what they did. The result is often hilarious, both in the wide range of whines and grumbles and in the creative way these often trivial cavils are made into music.

?Even though you can?t tell, I am a good mother.?
The reason for the emotional impact achieved in Applause can be summed up in two words: Paprika Steen. One of the world?s most vibrant actresses (having starred in such films as Adam?s Apples, The Substitute and Open Hearts), Steen has the innate ability to make us laugh, cry and, yes, even to fear her with just a glance.

Great stories are timeless. Great people are inspirational. Sometimes, on a rare occasion, we are lucky enough to discover both. A Polish Jew, Moritz Rabinowitz, was an astute businessman who built his clothing empire from scratch, after years of selling textiles and watches from village to village. Before the war, he was an outspoken fighter against Nazism and was the first person the Germans wanted to arrest after the occupation.

Morten Korch's much-loved novel, The Lady of Hamre, translates beautifully into a sun-drenched, idyll and fiery drama. Set in the late nineteenth century, long before women's liberation, it is the visually bold and stylized portrayal of a woman's life and fate as the heiress to the family farm. Bente makes a promise to her father, on his deathbed, to marry a neighbor's son and to carry on the family farm. Unfortunately for Bente, her husband, Gorme, is loutish and cruel and tries to take over the farm on his own terms.

A remote part of the country, an isolated farm, a woman with an unrequited passion, and a man on the verge of insanityÉ Torben Skjodt Jensen's debut black & white feature is a rare visual experience. One breathtakingly beautiful suite of images succeeds another in a hypnotic rhythm reminiscent of Terence Malick's Days of Heaven. The man of the title, Adrian Palmberg, lives to be a hundred, and the film follows him to his miraculous end.
