Hope is the chaotic tale of two brothers, Nathan and Skippy. Skippy's terminal illness leads Nathan to decide to do whatever it takes to fulfill his brother's lifelong dream of the two of them being the captains of their own boat and sailing it around the world. Their means to raise the money? Robbing liquor stores. They are soon offered an opportunity to participate in the big time - a bank robbery. How could they pass up the offer? Jakub, an ex-missionary, lives alone on a deserted island. Well, almost alone. He's got his horse, a hive of bees, and the fighter planes that use the island for nighttime bombing missions. The arrival of a young, mute boy, however, will alter Jakub's not-so-peaceful existence. Jakub's motives are normal enough - simple human companionship - and he quickly schools the boy on their environment. For starters, during bombing runs, Jakub takes the boy to the church tower to watch the explosions through a periscope. Jakub never forces the boy to speak.

In a modern Latin American police state, everyday corruption has entered the digital domain. The murder of an important trade union leader seems at first to be just another ordinary crime of passion, one of the hundreds that occur every day in Mexico City.
