Five nights of late movies and one fabulous late night party! If there are three things that define After Hours, they are camp, titillation and lots of action. What is After Hours all about in '98? Lots of camp, lots of titillation and lots and lots of action. We kick things off with Fudoh: The New Generation. The story of a vengeful Yakuza prince and his gang of kiddie killers, Fudoh delivers the goods and then some. It moves at the speed of a Tokyo/Osaka bullet train, and as long as you can handle a little bit or, perhaps a lot of gore, you'll be just fine.

It's rare that actors receive deserved recognition until they appear on the cover of a hundred magazines or stand on that Academy stage to accept their award (the prerequisite for the latter usually includes the magazine covers). Kevin Spacey's popularity may have risen one-hundred fold since his bow at The Oscars (1996, The Usual Suspects), but he has been leaving his imprint on films since 1986.

In the 90's, all minds turn to one thing: gay and lesbian cinema. Well, that's an exaggeration, but Disney has certainly become "gay-friendly." A must see film is Cavafy (National Award for Best Greek Film in 1997), a dramatic portrayal of the famous Greek poet and his turbulent and closeted life. His life is both tragic and inspiring. Filled with eroticism and beautiful imagery, Cavafy is not only for the gay and lesbian community, but for all who love literature and poetry. For your viewing pleasure, also selected are Out at Work and It's Elementary, both stunning explorations.

The film follows three young boys living at Green Chimneys, a residential treatment center for children with emotional, behavioral, social and learning challenges. Located on a farm, the center is designed for severely disaffected inner city youth, and teaches them socialization skills by assigning each one an animal to nurture. Thirteen-year-old Anthony is struggling to control his explosive temper. Twelve-year-old Eddie is confused about his once acceptable behavior of stealing and lying. And Mike, whoâ??s eleven years old, is nervous about starting a relationship with his mother.

Always a favorite of those of us a bit on the twisted side, this year's crop of "out-there" films that make up the Mindbenders series will not disappoint. David Munro, creator of the Cinequest favorite Bullethead, has returned with a surreal film about the desolate emotional landscape that trauma can create. First Love, Second Planet is the dysfunctional fantasy of Crystal, who seeks love on the barren, scorched landscape of Venus, named for the goddess of sensual love.
